Sample Script:

Thank you for your leadership on school safety during the 2025 legislative session. As we prepare for the 2026 session, we urge you to build on these positive steps and go further. You can;

  • Expand gun safety education and storage outreach to families across Georgia (FY2027 Budget Request)

  • Enact a Safe Storage Law requiring that firearms be secured where children reside

  • Enact Red Flag Laws and Universal Background Checks

  • Strengthen mental health support by investing in more school-based counselors, social workers, and telehealth access

  • Shift toward prevention, not just reaction, by investing in violence prevention programs across the state

Our children depend on your leadership to move from response to prevention. Please do not wait until the next tragedy occurs to take action. I urge you to support our proposal for safe firearm storage education in the Georgia budget.

Support Safe Storage Laws in Georgia

Child Access Prevention (CAP) laws save lives. States that have passed these laws, like Florida, Texas and North Carolina, have seen significant reductions in unintentional shootings, youth suicides, and gun-related injuries among children. Georgia can do the same.

Sample Script:

“As a member of Georgia Majority for Gun Safety, I urge you to support legislation that promotes safe firearm storage and protects children from unintentional shootings. States with child access prevention laws have seen reductions in youth firearm deaths, and Georgia should follow their lead. Please support HB 1, SB 49, and SB 53 and fund a statewide public education campaign promoting safe storage.”

#ProtectCVI Action Alert

#ProtectCVI - National Call to Action
The Department of Justice recently abruptly cancelled over $500 million in grants that were awarded to Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs across the country through the Bureau of Justice Assistance. Additionally, the Trump Administration proposed a 2026 budget which would eliminate the Center for Disease Control’s Injury Prevention Center.

These budget cuts are an immediate threat to public safety. CVI programs like IVVY at Grady Hospital and Hope Hustlers in Atlanta, informed by the work of the CDC's Injury Prevention Center, are interrupting violence in our city on a DAILY basis. We must join with others across the nation and RAISE OUR VOICES to let our elected officials know that we will not be silent about these reckless funding cuts. Please make these calls to House Appropriations Committee Chairs and your representatives to #ProtectCVI!

Contact:

Senator Jon Ossoff, 202-224-3521, https://www.ossoff.senate.gov/contact-us/

Senator Raphael Warnock, (202) 224-3643, https://www.warnock.senate.gov/contact/

Sample script for phone calls or emails:

"The recent actions by the Trump Administration to cancel CVIPI grants through the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance and the proposed elimination of the CDC's Injury Prevention Center are an immediate threat to public safety in Georgia and across the country. I am calling the Senator to call attention to these dangerous and reckless cuts that will make communities less safe.

We must keep the Injury Prevention Center at the CDC and allocate at least $100 million in funding to the Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative (CVIPI) in this budget, which would match FY2024 funding levels, with a goal to increase to $250 million in future years."
